Umrah Duas rights consist of the first Tawaaf of circumambulation around the Kaabah, Sai’y between Safa and Marwa hills, standing vigil on the plains of Mount Arafat, then stopping at Muzdalifa to accumulate pebbles and performing Ramay Al-Jamarat at Mina.
These reenactments recommend that to understand the Umrah pilgrims must supplant technicality with imagination. Some may perform the rights mechanically yet the very nature of the rituals seeks to shake the pilgrims out of their indifference and help them conceptualize a period and reality other than their own. The rights associate Muslims to a primordial monotheism and assist them to remember their agreement with their Lord: that they will venerate and obey Him. The message is evident- Islam is and always has been. At its core, it won’t change!
After putting on Ihram, perform two rakahs sunnat-ul Ihram. In the first rakah read Surah Kafirun and in the second rakah read Surah Ikhlas. After the completion of Salat-ul Ihram make intention of Umrah.
Recite Talbiyah thrice.
Then recite following Dua raising your hands:
This dua was recited by our beloved Prophet Muhammad PBUH.
On your way to Makkah read Talbiyah as much as possible and do a lot of zikr. After reaching Makkah find your accommodation. It is mustahab to do ghusl. Then enter the Mosque Al-Haraam preferably through the door named as “Baab-us-Salaam.”
When entering into Mosque Al-Haraam enter with your right foot, recite Bismillah and then Darood Ibrahimi. Recite Talbiyah as you enter and:
When you first glance at the Kaabah, any supplication is accepted. Prophet Muhammad PBUH used to recite following dua when he first glanced at the Kaabah.
When you approach the corner of the Kaabah that holds the black stone, raise your hands in supplication and recite:
When you stand on the line and face the black stone, raise both hands and recite:
Before you start your Tawaaf, stop reciting Talbiyah and make your intention as:
While doing Tawaaf between Yemeni corner and Hajr-e-Aswad recite:
When you complete Tawaaf, proceed to Maqam-e-Ibrahim and recite:
Sunnah way is after completion of Tawaaf, perform two rakahs of nafl and recite Surah Kafirun in the first rakah and then Surah Ikhlas in second. Then recite:
Prophet Muhammad PBUH while drinking Zamzam water he said:
Before you start at Safa recite following verse:
The intention for Safa-Marwa is as follows:
When you climb hill Safa, face Kaabah and recite following:
Recite any Umrah Dua after that.
At the foundation of Safa-Marwa, recite:
Recite the following Umrah Duas when leaving Masjid:
Umrah Duas are the most sacred complimentary prayer that helps a Muslim to revive his faith, purify his soul and get himself cleansed from the sins if performed with its true spirit.
I am going to Makkah to do ‘Umrah, but I do not know any du’aa’s. Can you help me?.
Published Date: 2011-05-15
Praise be to Allaah.
In the saheeh Sunnah are narrated du’aa’s and adhkaar which you can recite during the rituals of ‘Umrah, and from which the Muslim can benefit by memorizing them, understanding them and acting upon them. These include the following:
A – At the meeqaat when entering ihraam:
It is Sunnah for the Muslim to recite tasbeeh (saying “Subhaan-Allaah (glory be to Allaah)”), tahleel (saying “Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah (there is no god but Allaah)”) and takbeer (saying “Allaahu akbar (Allaah is Most Great)”) before entering ihraam for ‘Umrah or Hajj.
It was narrated that Anas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) prayed Zuhr with four rak’ahs when we were with him in Madeenah, and he prayed ‘Asr in Dhu’l-Hulayfah with two rak’ahs, then he stayed there overnight. When morning came he rode until he reached al-Bayda’, then he praised, glorified and magnified Allaah. Then he recited Talbiyah with the intention of performing Hajj and ‘Umrah and the people did likewise.
Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1476.
Al-Haafiz ibn Hajar said:
This ruling – that it is mustahabb to recite tasbeeh and the other (adhkaars) mentioned before ihraam – is something that not many people do even though it is proven in the Sunnah.
Fath al-Baari, 3/412
B – On the way to Makkah, between the meeqaat and arrival in Makkah:
It is Sunnah to recite the Talbiyah a great deal and to raise one’s voice – for men; women should recite in a low voice so that no non-mahram men will hear them.
It was narrated from ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) set out riding from the mosque of Dhu’l-Hulayfah, he recited the Talbiyah and said: “Labbayk Allaahumma labbayk, labbayka laa shareeka laka labbayk, inna al-hamda wa’l-ni’matah laka wa’l-mulk, laa shareeka lak (Here I am, O Allaah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Verily all praise and grace and dominion are Yours, You have no partner).”
Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5571; Muslim, 1184
C – During Tawaaf
Every time you come in line with the Black Stone in each circuit, say, “Allaahu akbar.” Al-Bukhaari (1613) narrated from Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) circumambulated the House, and every time he came to the corner (i.e., the Black Stone), he pointed to it with something he had in his hand and said takbeer.
Between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone you should say the words that were narrated from ‘Abd-Allaah ibn al-Saa’ib, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say between the two Corners: “Rabbana aatina fi’l-dunya hasanah wa fi’l-aakhirah hasanah wa qina ‘adhaab al-naar (Our Lord, give us that which is good in this world and that which is good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the torment of the Fire).” Narrated by Abu Dawood, 1892; classed as hasan by Shaykh al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.
D- Before climbing up al-Safa and when atop it:
It was narrated that Jaabir ibn ‘Abd-Allaah said: … then he (the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)) went out through the gate to al-Safa and when he drew near to al-Safa he recited: “Verily, As-Safa and Al-Marwah (two mountains in Makkah) are of the Symbols of Allaah” [al-Baqarah 2:158 – interpretation of the meaning], (and he said:) “I begin with that with which Allaah began.” He began with al-Safa and climbed it until he could see the House, then he turned to face the qiblah and proclaimed the Oneness of Allaah and magnified Him, and said: “Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah wahdahu laa shareeka lah, lahu’l-mulk wa lahu’l-hamd wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadeer; Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah wahdahu anjaza wa’dah wa nasara ‘abdah wa hazama al-ahzaaba wahdah (There is no god but Allaah alone, with no partner or associate, His is the dominion and to Him be praise, and He is able to do all things; there is no god but Allaah alone, He fulfilled His promises and granted victory to His slave and defeated the confederates alone).” Then he made du’aa’ between that and repeated this three times.
Narrated by Muslim, 1218,
E – When climbing al-Marwah
You should do the same as you did when climbing al-Safa, without reciting the verse before starting to climb.
Jaabir (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: Then he came down towards al-Marwah and when his feet reached the bottom of the valley he ran until the ground started to rise, then he walked until he came to al-Marwah, and he did at al-Marwah as he had done at al-Safa. Narrated by Muslim, 1218.
When drinking Zamzam water, you may say du’aa’ asking for the best of this world and the Hereafter, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The water of Zamzam is for whatever it is drunk for.” Narrated by Ibn Maajah, 3062; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in 5502.
Similarly it is prescribed to remember Allaah a great deal (dhikr), which includes du’aa’, during tawaaf and saa’i, so the Muslim should make du’aa’ as Allaah inspires him. There is nothing wrong with reciting Qur’aan during tawaaf and saa’i. What some people say, that there are special du’aa’s for each circuit of tawaaf and saa’i is something for which there is no basis in sharee’ah.
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said:
It is mustahabb during tawaaf to remember Allaah and call upon Him in ways that are prescribed in sharee’ah. If one recites Qur’aan there is nothing wrong with that. There is no specific dhikr that has been narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), that he either enjoined, said or taught to others. Rather (the pilgrim) may say any du’aa’ that is prescribed in sharee’ah. What many people say, that there is a specific du’aa’ to be recited beneath the downspout of the Ka’bah and so on has no basis.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to end his tawaaf between the two Corners by saying, “Rabbana aatina fi’l-dunya hasanah wa fi’l-aakhirah hasanah wa qina ‘adhaab al-naar (Our Lord, give us that which is good in this world and that which is good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the torment of the Fire),” as he used to finish all his du’aa’s with these words, and there is no specific du’aa’ for that, according to scholarly consensus.

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Dear and Beloved Brother in Islam, every dua or supplication made by the believers to their Lord, wherein one implores the Lord for what is good and righteous is accepted by the Merciful Lord; regardless of the time or the place of the supplication.
The All Knowing, All Wise Allah knows what is good and what is bad for us; therefore, if one asks for something good, Allah will give him/her one of three things:
Allah will give the believer what he/she has supplicated for.
If what the believer is asking is not good or harmful for the believer in this world, Allah will store it for him for the world of the Hereafter.
If what the believer is asking is not good or harmful for the believer in this world, Allah will turn away from the believer an equivalent amount of evil.
Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 2257 Narrated by Abu Sa'id al-Khudri
The Prophet (saws) said, "Any Muslim who makes a supplication containing nothing which is sinful, or which involves breaking ties of relationship, will be given for it by Allah one of three things: He will give him swift answer, or store it up for him in the next world, or turn away from him an equivalent amount of evil." Those who heard it said they would then make many supplications and he replied that Allah was more ready to answer than they were to ask.
Abdallah b. 'Umar reported that the Prophet (saws) said, "Hearts are like vessels, some more attentive and capacious than others. When you supplicate Allah you should be certain of being answered, and know that Allah does not answer a supplication that comes from a careless and inattentive heart."
Narrated by Ahmad
Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 2248 Narrated by Abu Hurayrah
Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "There are three whose supplication is not rejected: one who has just ended a fast, a just imam, and one who has been wronged, whose supplication is raised by Allah above the clouds and for which the gates of Heaven are opened. The Lord says, 'I swear by My might that I shall certainly help you, though it be after some time.'"
Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet (saws) said, "Your supplication will be answered if you are not impatient, and if you do not say, 'I supplicated but my supplication was not heard'."
Narrated by Malik.
Your Question: Are the duas offered during Umra are as much accepted by Allah Almighty as in hajj?
Although every dua and supplication made by the believers to their Merciful and Bounteous Lord is accepted, there are some times and places where ones dua is more accepted; near Allahs Sacred House, on the plains of Arafah during the Hajj, on the Night of Qadr in Ramadan, in the blessed month of Ramadan, on the Days of Eid, on Friday, after prayers, etc.
The pilgrimage to the Sacred House of Allah Subhanah is indeed a good deed; and both the Hajj and the Umrah pilgrimages are indeed good righteous deeds which would earn the believers the Pleasure and Good Will of Allah Subhanah. The greater the good deed, the better probability of the dua being accepted by the Bounteous and Generous Lord; and although both the pilgrimages are good deeds, there is absolutely no doubt that the Hajj is a much bigger deed than the Umrah pilgrimage.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verse 186: And if My servants ask you, O Prophet, concerning Me, tell them that I am quite near to them. I hear and answer the prayer of the suppliant, when he calls on Me. So let them respond to My call and believe in Me. (Convey this to them), perhaps they may be guided aright!
Although some times and places are best for the making and acceptance of supplications, the believers must know that the doors of Mercy and acceptance of Allah Subhanah are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; and the guidance of Allah and His Messenger (saws) encourages the believers to be constant in their supplication to their Bounteous and Generous Lord, wherever or whenever one wills; for the supplication of a believer is indeed a manifestation of his worship of his Lord.
Nu'man b. Bashir reported that the Prophet (saws), said, "Verily supplication is worship."
Narrated by Ahmad and Sunan.
Abu Hurairah reported, "The Prophet (saws) said, "Nothing is more dear to Allah than one's supplication to Him.''
Narrated by Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah.
Salman reported that the Prophet (saws), said, "Your Lord, the Blessed and the Exalted One, is Modest and Generous, and He loathes to turn away His servant empty-handed when he raises his hands to Him in supplication."
Narrated by Ahmad and Ibn Hibban.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allahs Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Shaik ul Islam Ibn Taymiyah has said:
“It is recommended during tawaf to remember Allah and call upon Him in ways that are prescribed in the sharia. If one recites the Quran there is nothing wrong with that. There is no specific dhikr (supplications) that have been narrated from the Prophet PBUH, that he either enjoined, said or taught to others. Rather (the pilgrim) may say any dua that is prescribed in the sharia. What many people say, that there is a specific dua to be recited beneath the downspout of the Kabah and so on has no basis.”
Majmoo Al Fataawa – 26/122, 123
There are however other supplications and duas that the Prophet PBUH prayed at various points during umrah, and who better than our Prophet PBUH do we have as an example to learn from. So let’s take a look at them.
The companion of the Prophet PBUH Anas RA is reported to have said: The Messenger of Allah PBUH prayed Zuhr with four rakahs when we were with him in Madinah, and he prayed Asr in Dhul Hulayfah with two rakahs, then he stayed there overnight. When morning came, he rode until he reached Al Bayda, then he praised, glorified and magnified Allah. Then he recited talbiyah with the intention of performing hajj and umrah and the people did likewise.
Narrated by Al Bukhari – 1476.
Ibn Abbas RA has said “the Prophet PBUH circumambulated the House and every time he came to the corner (i.e. the black stone), he pointed to it with something he had in his hand and said takbeer.”
Narrated by Al Bukhari – 1613
Abdullah ibn Al Saaib said “I heard the Messenger of Allah PBUH say between the two Corners:
Narrated by Abu Dawood – 1892; classed as hasan by Shaykh Albani
It is however to be recited only the first time that one climbs the Safa Mountain.
It was narrated that Jabir ibn Abdullah said: … then he PBUH went out through the gate to Al Safa and when he drew near to Al Safa he recited: “Verily, As-Safa and Al-Marwah are of the Symbols of Allaah” [Al Baqarah 2:158 – interpretation of the meaning], (and he said:) “I begin with that with which Allah began.”
Narrated by Muslim – 1218
The above mentioned hadith continues “… He PBUH began with Al Safa and climbed it until he could see the house, then he turned to face the qiblah and proclaimed the oneness of Allah and magnified Him, and said: “Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah wahdahu laa shareeka lah, lahu’l-mulk wa lahu’l-hamd wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadeer; Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah wahdahu anjaza wa’dah wa nasara ‘abdah wa hazama al-ahzaaba wahdah (There is no God but Allah alone, with no partner or associate, His is the dominion and to Him be praise, and He is able to do all things; there is no god but Allah alone, He fulfilled His promises and granted victory to His slave and defeated the confederates alone).” Then he made dua between that and repeated this three times.”
Narrated by Muslim – 1218
However at Marwa, do not recite the verse of the Quran, as that was done only once while at Al Safa. Each time one reaches either mountain during sa’ee then repeat the supplication mentioned above 3 times and make dua in between each.
Jabir RA said: “Then he PBUH came down towards Al Marwah and when his feet reached the bottom of the valley he ran until the ground started to rise, then he walked until he came to Al Marwah, and he did at Al Marwah as he had done at Al Safa.”
From Adam, Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Moses, Jesus (ASW) and the last Prophet Muhammad (SAW), the messengers of Allah, we got only one message. That is that if you want to succeed in this world and the hereafter, you must worship One Allah, and not to worship your Nafs and desires.etc. Your path without the light of Quran and sunnah, leads you into darkness. Fact is fact and just guessing is an illusion.
History has thousands of years of scripture containing teachings of common good such as morality, fairness, family value and justice. And they all teach that we are dependant upon one almighty God and humility in this world will bring us closer to our creator. There is no power except the Almighty and we know this…we see this everyday, but we ignore it. So please read and understand the Quran, the miracle granted to Muhammad (SAW); over 1400 years since it came down and not even one punctuation mark changed.
Islam taught us to enjoy common good with communities and humanity as large, as we are children of one man. We need to understand our differences and find a solution. So work to attain unity. And it will soon be your time to lead. Please lead with patience, wisdome and justice, to your own self and the community. If you don’t respond to this call now…your generations to come shall suffer.
Be aware of the greatest propaganda of our times of “Islamic Terrorism”, “Islamic Extremism” and “Fundamental Muslims”, and try to change it. Ironically the label comes from those, who have been planning and executing the Muslim Holocaust in various parts of the world- to cover their own racism, greed and religious bigotry. Look at the majestic history of Muslims. The history of Islam. Understand the Quran and Sunnah. Islam is the most civilized way of life, and any individual can practice universally. It is natural, acceptable by who study with an open mind and clear heart. It is a religion of Adam, Abraham, Musa, Jesus and Muhammad (SAW).
We all are in need and may Allah give us true understandings and practicing Islam in every aspect of life. Do your best and trust in Allah.
“And how could we not place our trust in God, seeing that it is He who has shown us the path which we are to follow? Hence we shall certainly bear with patience whatever hurt you may do us: for, all who have trust (in His existence) must place their trust in God (alone)” (Quran 14:12)
“O our Sustainer! We have wronged our own souls: If thou forgive us not and bestow not upon us Thy mercy, we shall certainly be lost” (Quran 7:23)
“O our Sustainer! Shower us with patience in adversity and make firm out steps and succor us against the people who deny the truth.” (Quran 2:250)
